The GHF had halted its relief locations in Gaza following the halt in hostilities took effect last month

The controversial, American and Israeli-supported Gaza relief foundation says it is winding down its humanitarian work in the Gaza region, following nearly half a year.

The group had already suspended its three food distribution sites in Gaza following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was implemented six weeks ago.

The organization attempted to bypass the UN as the main supplier of relief to Palestinian residents.

United Nations organizations and other humanitarian groups would not collaborate with its system, stating it was questionable and hazardous.

Many residents were fatally wounded while trying to acquire nourishment amid turbulent circumstances near the foundation's locations, mainly through Israeli military action, based on UN documentation.

Israeli authorities stated its troops fired warning shots.

Program Termination

The organization declared on the beginning of the week that it was terminating work now because of the "effective conclusion of its crisis response", with a total of three million packages containing the corresponding to over 187 million food portions distributed to Gazans.

The organization's top administrator, Jon Acree, additionally stated the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) - which has been created to help implement the American administration's Gaza initiative - would be "adopting and expanding the approach the organization demonstrated".

"The organization's system, in which militant groups were prevented from misappropriating relief supplies, had major impact in convincing militant groups to participate and securing a halt in hostilities."

Feedback and Statements

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - approved the termination of the GHF, according to reports.

An official from declared the foundation should be subject to scrutiny for the harm it caused to local residents.

"We request all global human rights groups to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after resulting in fatalities and harm of many residents and obscuring the nutritional restriction approach employed by the Israel's administration."

Organization Timeline

The organization commenced activities in Gaza on 26 May, a short period subsequent to the Israeli government had moderately reduced a comprehensive closure on aid and commercial deliveries to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and led to substantial deficiencies of essential supplies.

After 90 days, a famine was declared in the Palestinian urban center.

The organization's sustenance provision locations in various parts of the Palestinian territory were administered by US private security contractors and situated within regions under Israeli military authority.

Relief Agency Issues

United Nations agencies and their collaborators claimed the methodology contravened the fundamental humanitarian principles of objectivity, fairness and autonomy, and that directing needy individuals into military-controlled areas was inherently unsafe.

United Nations human rights division stated it documented the killing of at least 859 Palestinians seeking food in the proximity to foundation locations between late May through end of July.

An additional 514 individuals were lost their lives close to the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it also mentioned.

The majority of these individuals were lost their lives due to the Israeli forces, according to the office.

Divergent Narratives

Israeli defense forces stated its troops had discharged cautionary rounds at people who approached them in a "menacing" fashion.

The GHF said there were no shootings at the distribution centers and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" figures from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Future Implications

The GHF's future had been indefinite since Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities consented a truce agreement to execute the initial stage of the American administration's peace initiative.

It said aid distribution would take place "absent meddling from the involved factions through the UN organizations and their partners, and the humanitarian medical organization, in combination with other global organizations not associated in any manner" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

United Nations representative Stephane Dujarric declared this week that the foundation's closure would have "no influence" on its activities "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the truce was implemented on October 10th, it was "not enough to meet all the needs" of the 2.1 million residents.
